The Advisory Committee (from 1982 the National Committee), was the primary vehicle for women's representation within the voluntary wing of the Conservative Party organisation. Under governing documents adopted in 1951, the committee was comprised of women members of the National Union Executive Committee, the chairmen of the Area Women's Advisory Committees, and additional members co-opted by the committee.

The Advisory Committee met regularly to receive reports from the executive officers of the committee, the Area Women's Advisory Committees, and from the organisation's sub-committees and working parties. The Advisory Committee also had responsibility for organising the Annual Women's Conference, and for setting the general strategy and direction of the Women's Organisation. Specific matters requiring detailed discussion were typically delegated to the General Purposes Committee.
