A firm was established by William Thomas Henley in 1837 to make electrical apparatus and insulated conductors; in the course of the 19th century it became a successful cable manufacturer, and in 1880 became W.T. Henley's Telegraph Works Co. Ltd. It was acquired by Associated Electrical Industries in 1960.
