Biographical / Historical
Associated Electrical Industries Ltd. was formed 1929, technically by changing the name of the existing Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company Ltd. It was a holding company for a new Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company and the British Thomson-Houston Company. In 1960 it took direct control of the activities of the companies it controlled, but loss of the well-known names of British Thomson-Houston and Metropolitan-Vickers led it into serious financial difficulties, from which it did not recover before merging with the General Electric Company in 1967. Some of the early AEI minutes and corporate records are to be found in the Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Company Archives above.
