Originally (for a brief period) Cables & Wireless Ltd., this company was formed in 1929 by a merger of Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Company's interests in Imperial communications with those of the Associated Cable Companies, as a result of recommendations of the Empire Government Conference of 1928 and the Imperial Telegraphs Act.
