Worn and mainly illegible inscriptions on the back cover, some in French, and a gap at the back of the volume where pages have been removed, indicate a (probably) earlier use of the volume. Comprises:
- (fol. 1v) brief diary entries, 18 Oct.-17 Dec. 1817
- (fols. 2-12, 130-121 rev.) notes and mathematical workings relating mainly to roots and quadratic equations, with (fol. 124v rev.) extract of a letter from Charles Hutton to Baron Maseres, 1791
- (fols. 22, 25v-26) copies of a petition and letters to the British ambassador to The Netherlands, concerning the conscription of Lockhart's son into the Dutch army, Mar. 1824
- (fols. 13-21, 24-25r, 27-120) a translation, 'The Geometry of the Compasses', of Lorenzo Mascheroni, La Geometria del Compasso (Pavia, 1797)
