The despatch-books contain copies of Baron Howden's despatches to Lords Palmerston, Granville, Malmesbury, John Russell and Clarendon, successive Secretaries of State for Foreign Affairs. Each volume has a chronological index providing a brief abstract of each despatch, and some including Spanish press cuttings.
