Letters to Elspeth Huxley from her mother, Nellie Grant, written mostly from Quinta dos Passarinhos, Sargacal, Lagos, Algarve, Portugal:

(file 1) - 3 Jul-25 Dec 1965 (19 letters, 66 fols). Nellie Grant arrived in Portugal from Kenya at the beginning of July, and after a few days in Lisbon went to the Algarve, staying in the neighbourhood of Lagos while she prepared to take up residence in the quinta she had bought with a friend, Dorothy Powell. No letters between 22 Jul and 21 Sep when Nellie was in England.
(file 2) - 1 Jan-26 Dec 1966 (57 letters, 136 fols). Letter of 23 Jan encloses birthday greetings to Nellie Grant from two of her Kenyan staff. No letters between 25 Feb and 2 Apr when Elspeth and Gervas Huxley were in Portugal. In April, Nellie moved into Quintos dos Passarinhos.
(file 3) - 2 Jan-31 Dec 1967 (49 letters, 120 fols). No letters between 28 Feb and 6 Apr when Elspeth and Gervas Huxley visited Nellie Grant, and between 14 Oct and 11 Nov when Elspeth Huxley visited.
(file 4) - 14 Jan-29 Dec 1968 (38 letters, 92 fols). Elspeth Huxley went to South Africa by ship at the end of 1967 and returned in Apr 1968. Some letters from this period are missing, and others have some sheets missing. No letters betweeen 20 Sep and 12 Nov when Nellie Grant was in England.
(file 5) - 5 Jan-27 Dec 1969 (37 letters, 83 fols). No letters between 10 May and 12 Jul when Nellie Grant was in England.
(file 6) - 3 Jan-14 Nov 1970 (37 letters, 95 fols). No letters between 25 Mar and 1 May when Elspeth Huxley was in Portugal and between 23 May and 2 Jul when Nellie Grant was in England.
(file 7) - 5 Jun-26 Dec 1971 (22 letters, 74 fols). No letters between 14 Nov 1970 and 5 Jun 1971. Elspeth Huxley moved from Woodfolds to Green End, Oaksey, early in 1971; Gervas Huxley died 2 Apr 1971.
