Album of botanical specimens, 1796-1814
Bound album of botanical specimens in brown suede boards with decorative gilt containing 62 loose and mounted specimens, with captions from 1805 to 1814. The first page contains a sample of ' Geranium Robertianum, Barming, 1805'. This volume obviously saw several uses over several generations at Lacock Abbey, starting at back end with an ink inscription 'May 4th 1796'. Numerous manuscript pages are roughly cut out, leaving traces of handwriting, and there are more modern lists in the middle pages, referring to cheques and refrigerators. About one-fifth filled.
