Illustrated holiday diary of Mabel Pratt: West Oxfordshire, 9-16 Aug 1942
Lined exercise book entitled, 'A Pilgrimage to Purton with the Family Awheel.' This records a family cycling holiday with the two children, Margaret and Roger (aged nine). Entries are written by both Charles and Mabel. Their route took them from Oxford to Cumnor, Appleton, Newbridge, Standlake, the aerodrome at Stanton Harcourt, Buckland, Highworth, Purton, Cricklade, Hatton, Bibury, Burford, Fawler, Leafield, Woodstock and home. Purton was the home of Mabel's 'pioneering ancester, old Great-grandpa Franklin', her father's grandfather, and the reason for the 'pilgrimage'. There are two pen-and-ink sketches by Mabel stuck into the book.
