Nicole Vinh Mau had been a student at Birmingham. Later she was Chairman of the Theoretical Department of the Nuclear Physics Institute at Orsay Paris where Peierls was a frequent visitor (see Bird of Passage, p. 332). They wrote a collaborative paper 'Local approximation to non-local potentials' (Nuclear Physics A, 343, 1980).
