Meadows started teaching at Cardiff University in 1994, at the Centre for Journalism Studies teaching photojournalism to postgraduates. He also taught digital storytelling to undergraduates, and undertook a PhD by publication with the Centre for Journalism Studies. Upon return to Cardiff University from his secondment to BBC Wales, where the work he did pioneering the digital project 'Capture Wales' formed the secondary part of his PhD, Meadows delivered classes in photo-appreciation, digital storytelling and participatory media to both undergraduates and postgraduates. Meadows retired from academic life in 2012.
