Papers relating to the events at Hamburg University after the Nazi surge to power in 1933, to persecution and eviction of academics in Germany in the 1930s, and to the conference and exhibition 'Enge Zeit: Spuren Vertriebener und Verfolgter der Hamburger Universität' at Hamburg University, 1991, dealing with the history of the university under the Nazi regime, including:
- Folder 1: ‘Enge Zeit cuttings ...’: Press cuttings in German relating to the 'Enge Zeit' exhibition at Hamburg University, 1991; copies of the Oxford Magazine containing articles and letters to the editor relating to Bruno Snell, Hamburg University in 1933, 'Enge Zeit' exhibition, and German refugees in Oxford, 1989-1992; articles and correspondence relating to reactions to the 'Enge Zeit' exhibition, including a lawsuit over perceived implication that one of the Hamburg university staff in the 1930s was a member of the Nazi party; excerpts from Edgar Wind's contribution to the conference Wissenschaft und Freiheit in Hamburg, 1953, with remarks on the events at Hamburg University in 1933 and the role of Bruno Snell; letters from Martin Buist and Hans Joachim Scheel to Margaret Wind about 'Enge Zeit', 1991; photographs and photocopies of photographs of the 'Enge Zeit' exhibition, including the Edgar Wind exhibit, and of conference attendees, including Margaret Wind.
