World Conservation Strategy (WCS), 1979-1990

The World Conservation Strategy (WCS) was drawn up by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources and launched in 1980. The World Wildlife Fund was also a main supporter. The UK's programme under the WCS, named 'Earth's Survival' was launched in 1983. Nicholson was Chairman of its Programme Standing Committee.
