MS. 15041/1603 and MS. 15041/1604 comprise two separate envelopes of correspondence which were originally in a larger enveope inscribed 'Lord Alanbrooke and Edward Grey'.

This shelfmark (MS. 15041/1603) contains material relating to Lord Alanbrooke, comprising: personal correspondence with Alanbrooke, including ornithological, 1945, 1955-1958. One letter only is dated 1945, this was sent from Alanbrooke in the War Office to Nicholson, who was at the Potsdam Conference (Jul-Aug), regarding Nicholson's bird list compiled in Germany (a copy of the list is included).

Biographical / Historical

Alanbrooke was Chief of the Imperial General Staff during World War Two. He was a friend of Nicholson's and a keen ornithologist.
