In 1987 Roy Jenkins campaigned and was elected as Chancellor of the University of Oxford, a position he held until his death. The chancellorship involved regular ceremonial duties at the university degree ceremony (Encaenia) as well as a roving ambassadorial and fundraising role.

Arranged as found with an alphabetically organised chronological sequence and a miscellaneous sequence mainly relating to Encaenia (the annual Oxford honorary degree ceremony). Please note that there is Encaenia material in the alphabetical sequence as well.

The Chancellor of Oxford papers include Encaenia speeches and additional speech-related correspondence and papers. For more of Jenkins' speeches see the speeches series [MSS. Jenkins 291-349]; for Oxford-related ephemera (event programmes and dinner menus) see the 'Personal ephemera' series [MSS.
