Biographical / Historical

Lacock Abbey is a country house and former nunnery located in the village of Lacock, Wiltshire. It came into the ownership of successive generations of the Talbot family and was inherited by Henry Fox Talbot in the 19th century. Many aspects of the site feature in his photographs, including the cloister. His granddaughter, Matilda Theresa Talbot, inherited the Abbey in 1916 and donated the property to the National Trust in 1944.
