Sampler by Emily Palmer, 17 Feb 1835
File
MS. Eng. misc. a. 1, fol. 4
Part of an old-style ‘guardbook’ of the Nicholson period which was probably initiated between 1887 and 1894 to take continuing accessions. This sampler was apparently never catalogued and its provenance is unrecorded; it was remounted in 1981-1984. The sampler is silk threads on linen canvas, worked in cross stitch, 463 x 420 mm, ‘Emily Palmer Aged 12 February 17th 1835’ , with verse text ‘Now like the Flow’r which to the Sun displays…Whose yoke is Freedom, and whose tribute Love’.
