Photographic print and sitter card indexes, c. 1938-c. 1989
In the Ramsey & Muspratt studio in Oxford every sitting was recorded on a card with names in alphabetical order, addresses, details such as weddings, passports, children, home sittings etc., payments and, most importantly negative numbers. Some of the named cards were removed by Helen Muspratt while she was sorting her archive later in life and attached to negatives and prints.
There are additionally two card indexes created by Helen Muspratt's friend Pennie Denton in the 1980s which catalogue the prints stored at Helen Muspratt's home in Swanage. One index is arranged by subject (e.g. babies, weddings) and one by the name of the sitter. [Denton's print numbers can be found on the back of numerous photographs in the archive in the form HM1234.]
