File 1, fols. 1-98: Correspondence with Lugard's publisher, William Blackwood & Sons Ltd., about the original publication in 1922, their plans to issue a revised version (eventually abandoned in 1942), together with lists of journals and newspapers asked to review the first edition, notes by Lugard and the original contract agreement, 1919-1942.

File 2, fols. 1-24: Correspondence with the New York publisher, Charles Scribner's Sons, about publishing The Dual Mandate, with Blackwood about the Overseas Book League and with Oxford University Press about reproducing one of the illustrations from volume two of The Rise of Our East African Empire, 1921-1939.
  3. File 3, fols. 1-34: Blackwoods' accounts of sales and royalties, with an analysis by Edward Lugard for Margery Perham's benefit, 1922-1938.
