Biographical Material, 1871-1948

 Series

    request

The material in this section, although extremely diverse, all throws light on Lugard's character, tastes, religious views, relations with his friends, propensity for writing verse and other purely personal matters. Thus bound copies of his school magazine can be found in this section, together with material for the "Book of Remembrance" compiled by Major Edward Lugard after his brother's death. Of the small amount of correspondence in this section some relates to Lady Lugard, such as the transcripts of her letters to L.S. Amery concerning her husband's need of employment after retirement from the Governor-Generalship of Nigeria.
