- Personal papers and biographical material, including telegrams and letters regarding W.M. Macmillan's 80th birthday, personal correspondence, two family photographs, calling cards, press cuttings regarding Macmillan, papers and correspondence regarding his education in Cape Town and at the United Free Church College in Aberdeen, papers and correspondence regarding Macmillan's time teaching at Llandovery School in Wales, Stellenbosch Town Guard permits and orders, and correspondence regarding his academic work, particularly his work at the South African School of Mines and Technology (later the University of Witwatersrand), Johannesburg, and his honorary degrees from Oxford University, the University of Natal and the University of Edinburgh. Includes transcription of Latin oration delivered in honour of Macmillan by the public orator and Principal of Jesus College, Oxford, J.T. Christie, at Convocation at which he was awarded an honorary D.Litt. in 1957. 1898-1974
- Papers and notes written by William Macmillan's father, the Rev. John Macmillan regarding Indian Missions, treatment of the works of William Shakespeare and The Little Merchants by Maria Edgeworth, and letters regarding his death sent to [Elizabeth Caird] Macmillan [William Macmillan's mother]. c. 1879-1914
