Activism and social-political notes, 1961-2003, n.d., [1958?]

 Series

  • How to
    request

This series of notes relating to Landin's social and political activism mainly cover the 1970s-1990s. The nature of them are fairly private - they consist of personal notes with reflections, aphorisms and observations on society, but shed light on why he may have been involved with the Commitee of 100 and other groups attested to in this series such as the Gay Liberation Front and RLF (Road Liberation Front?), and many campaigns in and around London. Most of the formats in this series are:

  1. handwritten notes
  2. ephemeral material such as campaign posters, newsletters and leaflets and circulars (often used to scribble notes on the back of relating to the issue)
  3. selected newspaper cuttings, sometimes annotated or headlines underlined
  4. and, (MS. Landin 9) a cover of a prison notebook issued to Landin, Dec 1961.

Within the handwritten notes throughout the series, there are recurring themes which Landin writes and reflects on, including:

  1. cybersocialism
  2. constructing an effective campaign and instigating social change
  3. procedures and organisations
  4. power balance
  5. noted discriminations against minorities and the fight for equality, particularly homosexuals and with relation to the AIDS pandemic.
