Copies of 'Burghley Papers' or Cecil papers, i.e. papers of Sir William Cecil Baron Burghley (d. 1598) and his son Sir Robert Cecil, Viscount Cranborne, afterwards Earl of Salisbury (d. 1612), relating to English state affairs, and now preserved at Hatfield House. The originals seem all to be calendared in the Historical MSS. Commission's Calendar of Hatfield Papers, so far as it has proceeded.

At p. 577 is a copy of a diary of Lord Cranborne's movements, correspondence, etc., June 24, 1603-June 12, 1605, composed by Edward Southwayte.

Arrangement

They are arranged in perturbed order, esp. after p. 265, from, April 23, 1583, to July 20, 1623, but few are later than 1605.
