'Rupert Papers': transcripts from the original correspondence formerly in the possession of Mr. Richard Bentley, probably made for the use of Mr. Eliot Warburton, author of Memoirs of Prince Rupert and the Cavaliers (publ. 1849). A list and abstract of the letters is given by Warburton, op. cit., vol. i, pp. 474 et seq., and, although incomplete, serves as a guide to the contents of these volumes. The correspondence covers the years 1642-66, and is arranged chronologically.

The Firth transcripts have been used by Dr. S. R. Gardiner in his History of the Great Civil War, and by miss Eva Scott in her life of Rupert, Prince Palatine (1899), but many letters among them have not yet been printed.
