Custodial History
But no MS. of this treatise was in the Askew sale of 1785, and MS. Balliol 248 (E) is stated in the printed catalogue to have the treatise divided into two books, whereas in this MS. 'Bal.' it is divided into six. At fol. 331 are four papers formerly loose in the volume:
- A letter from A. Butler to dr. Charles Morton about collations of Cicero De Oratore, etc., Nov. 14, 1761
- A letter from dr. Morton to sir W. Blackstone, enclosing similar collations, Feb. 17, 1762
- A letter from the same to the same, forwarding collations of Cicero and implying that messrs. (Nicholas?) Hornsby and (Robert?) Barclay were the chief persons interested in acquiring these collations, May 12, 1762
- The wrapper of a letter from Blackstone to messrs. Barclay and Hornsby at Merton college, Oxford, May 13 (about 1765?)
