Theresa Blount's music book, 1700
Contains French, Italian and English songs and instrumental music. Mostly anonymous but composers represented include J.-B. de Bousset, A. Campra, L.-A. Domel, J.-B. Lully, T. Carapella, G. Bononcini, D. Purcell, S. Stubley, J. Clarke, R. Courteville, Gravina and D. Michele.
Fols. 1-8 contain songs in French, copied by an expert hand, probably French & Italian. English hands, less practised, added two Italian songs (fols. 8v-9); 'A Song in Magbeth... by... D. Purcell' (fols. 9v-10); and 'A Song from Anacreon... by Mr. Stubley' and 'Musette' (fols. 10v-11). The last hand wrote keyboard music at the other end of the book: Clark's 'Emperor of Germany's March' and 'Prince of Denmark's March' (Zimmermann S125) (fol. 78 rev.); 'Aire by Mr. Courteville' (fol. 77v), and music for dancing (fols. 77-69v rev.)
The date '1700' is inside front cover, and inside the back cover is a note: 'Souvenez vous de votre amies De paris es toutes vos amies A paris et dunkerke Therese Blount [?] a Mapledurham. Paty bloun[t]'.
Includes many notes and inscriptions in various junvenile hands.
