'Old Oxford', an extensive collection of notes and extracts chiefly from printed sources relating to the history, topography and old buildings of the city of Oxford, the whole compiled by Mr. Herbert Hurst. To each volume is prefixed an index to its contents and a list of the principal items contained in it, MS. Top. Oxon c. 183-186 being reckoned as one volume: MS. Top. Oxon c. 191 is a general index to the whole. The longer articles in each volume are here given:
- Papers read before the Oxford Architectural and Historical Society by canon Wm. Bright on Oxford cathedral, Feb. 19, 1887 (p. 1120), and by Mr. Falconer Madan on Brasenose college knocker, Nov. 18, 1890 (p. 1148)
- Long extracts from Gutch's edition of Wood's Colleges of Oxford (pp. 1168, 1193), and other published works relating to Oxford history
- Extracts made about A.D. 1736 from registers of deeds at Exeter college (p. 1310)
- Notices of the church of St. Peter-in-the-East from Merton college register and extracts from its churchwardens' accounts (pp. 1320, 1325)
- Up to p. 1107 the volume consists of newspaper cuttings
