Preparations by E. W. B. Nicholson for a projected 'New Commentary on the Historical Books of the New Testament' of which his Commentary on ... Matthew, published in 1881, was intended to form the first volume. The volume comprises:
- Drafts for prefaces and a commentary on the text of stt. Mark (fols. 6, 19) and Luke (fol. 32) and Acts i-xvii (fol. 55)
- A few notes on st. John are at fol. 49
- 'materials for notes' in the form of rough jottings follow at fol. 110
