Genealogies by Sir William Dugdale, Written in 1646-1683 by W. Dugdale
Genealogies by Sir William Dugdale:
- P. 1. 'Tabulæ cùm genealogical cùm historicę ex Anglicarum Rerum scriptoribus ... (Londini editis anno Domini MDXCVJo [ab Henr. Savilio]) per me Willelmum Duga|||| ('Originally Dugale. The writer nearly erased the le, and would have turned the (a) into a (d) and added ale after it, but was caused by some interruption to leave the correction unfinished. E.W.B.N.) fęcialem à Cestria denominatum deductę anno Domini MDCXLVJ°'
- At p. 32 follow similar tables 'ex Historiæ Normannorum scriptoribus antiquis (Lutetiae editis anno Domini M°DCXIX [ab Andr. Duchesne]) per me Willelmum Dugdale deductę anno Domini MDCXLVIJ°'
- Finally at p. 55, many other pedigrees of early English and Scotch regal and noble families, dated 1645, from printed and manuscript sources. Some of the pedigrees are continued to the 16th cent., and in one case a pedigree of the English royal family of Stuart is brought down to 1683 (p. 120)
A general index is appended, at p. 125: and at p. 127 'Exemplar cujusdam veteris manuscripti codicis penès me Willelmum Dugdale ... existentis, antiquissimæ Scharneburniorum familiæ progeniem, in agro Norfolciano ... continens. A° 1681.'.
The whole forms a body of pedigrees and short accounts of early Norman, English, and Scotch families of royal or noble rank, with exact references to the historical sources.
