Notebooks of, and chiefly written by, prof. S. P. Rigaud on scientific and literary subjects, especially Astronomy, Mathematics, and Natural Science, usually consisting of stitched sections, each dated and signed and containing varying numbers of leaves: every volume has a (later) list of contents. Prof. Rigaud was fond of noting down criticisms as he read through a book, and everything he did was distinguished by neatness and precision.

The chief contents are as follows, the papers and essays to which no name is attached being by Rigaud:

  1. List of John Machin's MSS. belonging to the Royal Astronomical Society (fol. 1)
  2. Papers about the longitude and latitude of Oxford (fol. 18), memoranda about Harriot's papers (fol. 49)
  3. About llalley's instruments (fol. 94)
  4. The latter being copies of notes by dr. Bradley: notes about the 'sealed packet' of Flamsteed's catalogue of stars (fol. 150: cf. 355)
  5. Memoranda about dr. Bradley's instruments at Wanstead (fol. 195) and Oxford (fol. 210)
  6. Notes on mrs. Catharine Barton (fol. 355)
