Notebooks of, and chiefly written by, prof. S. P. Rigaud on scientific and literary subjects, especially Astronomy, Mathematics, and Natural Science, usually consisting of stitched sections, each dated and signed and containing varying numbers of leaves: every volume has a (later) list of contents. Prof. Rigaud was fond of noting down criticisms as he read through a book, and everything he did was distinguished by neatness and precision.

The chief contents are as follows, the papers and essays to which no name is attached being by Rigaud:

  1. Notes on the ψαμμίτης (Arenarius) of Archimedes (fol. 1)
  2. Short notes on the whole Bible, including the Apocrypha (fol. 44)
  3. A criticism of the Catalogue of the Royal Society's Library, printed in 1825 (fol. 144)
  4. A catalogue of pamphlets in Rigaud's own library (fol. 153)
  5. Index to Cowley's Latin poems (fol. 230)
  6. Notes on the establishment of the Hunterian Oration and Museum in London, 'collected in conversation with sir Everard Home', 1825 (fol. 238)
  7. Lists for Rigaud's lectures, 1807-18 (fol. 246)
  8. Notes on London Life Assurance Companies, 1825 (fol. 276)
  9. 'Memoranda for examining the Oxford Almanac', 1823 (fol. 302)
  10. papers about Pappus (fol. 322)
  11. Two letters printed in the Morning Chronicle of July 15 and Aug. 5, 1825, about Professors at Oxford, the latter by S. P. Rigaud (fol. 413)
  12. A list of Rigaud's printed papers, 1804-38 (fol. 431)
