Counter-Tenor part-book of Services, early 17th cent. - mid-18th cent.
Morning Services are in front, Evening Services in the back (volumes reversed). The first sections, copied in an early 17th-cent. calligraphic hand, includeed music by Byrd, Boyce [Thomas Boyse (?)], Richard Farrant, Morley, Tallis, Weelkes, and William Wigthorpe. The initials 'W. B.' on fol. 103v rev. of MS. Mus. e. 25 are a later addition. Restoration hands (among which are included William King's and others which copied music in MS. Mus. c. 48) added services by Mr. Rogers (before 1669), Child [after 1663 (D. Mus. Oxon)], R. Portman and W. King. Paper was added in the middle of each set. Additional music in this section is partly in the hand of R. Goodson, and includes Services by R. Patrick, R. Farrant, Child, Gibbons, Hall with Hine (in E flat), Charles Jones of New College and Byrd.
There are later additions including Services by Bishop, Nathaniel Priest and Kelway, of which some are in the hand of Morgan Cove, Chaplain of New College, c 1740 (see. MS. Mus. e. 23, fol. 44). In MS. Mus. e. 25, fols. 6v-8, are two-part settings of two poems, beg. 'What glorious wonders', subscribed 'Per Sy: Colman' and 'God by his wisdom', copied early 17th cent.
