Council notes which passed between Charles ii and lord Clarendon: the few which are dated are of 1660-62. They are chiefly single leaves, usually bearing the writing of both the king and his chancellor, having been passed from the one to the other, often more than once, in the course of meetings of the Privy Council.

They are of a personal character, but of the highest importance as reflecting the private and extempore views of both on matters of state: the subjects range from constitutional principles to the question of hanging a man, or whether the king can get away from town for a few days. A few miscellaneous papers are included in the volumes.
