MS. Dodsworth 24, 1650, 112 leaves: Transcripts of royal charters to English monastic houses (for the most part printed in Dugdale's Monasticon) from the charter rolls of:

At fols. 88, 95v, 100, etc., are transcripts of a few other Chancery enrolments and inquisitions, as noted by Joseph Hunter (Three Catalogues, p. 107). Dodsworth has added occasional marginal notes.

The volume is partly (fols. 1-17, 49-56, 65-73, 96-102, etc.) in the hand of Roger Dodsworth, partly in those of his secretaries. Dodsworth has added marginalia throughout.

MS. Dodsworth 26, 17th century, 182 leaves: A. In English: written in 1618 by R. Dodsworth: (fol. 1). 'The coppies of sundry letters written by severall commissioners ... imployed in severall countyes to visit and pull downe religious houses: taken and truly transcribed out of the originalls bound up in Sir Roberte Cotton's library [Cleopatra E iv], by me, Roger Dodsworthe, 1618. Note that thes letters following have respect to such occurents especially that concerne Yorkshire and other Northern parts.'

A list of the letters and documents is given in the Old Catalogue: all the letters, except two at fols. 3-4, have been edited from the originals in Thos. Wright's Letters relating to the Suppression of Monasteries.

B. In Latin: written about 1620:

  1. Fol. 20 = '24'. 'Ex libro de Drax in custodia Marmaduci Constable de Everingham ar:', a partial transcript of the chartulary of the Augustinian priory of Drax, now at Everingham Park and calendared in Burton's Monasticon Eboracense, pp. 100-13
  2. Fol. 93 = '103'. 'Liber de terris, redditibus, etc., ecclesie collegiate sancti Johannis de Beverlaco spectantibus': a transcript of portions (viz. fols. 1-35, 86-113) of the Provost's Book now preserved at Beverley Minster (see Beverley Chapter Act Book, Surtees Society, ii. 305-39). It contains a rental of the provostry of Beverley compiled by Simon Russell in Jan. 1416/7, and (fol. 117v='127v') court-rolls of the provostry, 26 Hen. vi (1447/8)
  3. Fol. 136 = '149'. Copies of three charters of the Romara family to Revesby abbey.
  4. Fol. 143 = '157'. 'Opusculum [Hugonis de Kirkstall] de origine Monasterii de Fontibus': first published in Dugdale's Monasticon (new ed., v. 292), from this MS., which is collated, as D, in J. R. Walbran's edition for the Surtees Society (Memorials of Fountains, i: see p. xvii).

Articles 1, 2, and 4 are in one hand, and have marginalia by Dodsworth. There is an index, at fol. ii, of surnames in artt. 1-2. Yorkshire place-names in this volume are indexed in MS. Dodsworth 21.
