Biographical / Historical

Tour reports were compiled by visitors to Oxfam's programme in a country or region. Visitors could be Oxfam staff from the UK, or from elsewhere in the global programme, or occasionally from other Oxfams. Some international staff visiting the UK also compiled tour reports. Tour reports were sometimes submitted to the Field Committees and may be found among papers for meetings in MS. Oxfam PRG/1/2-5.

From 1965, visits from Oxford were organised for groups of Oxfam staff seeking exposure to the programme and, from 1980, also for volunteers. Participants were encouraged to evaluate and gather information on Oxfam's work with partners for use in public communications work and information materials.

Arrangement

Reports of visits to a single country are arranged by country. Reports relating to more than one country are arranged by area or region, e.g. Asia. All except those relating to staff and volunteers' tours (MS. Oxfam PRG/3/5/32) form one alphabetical sequence so that, for example, a tour report for Angola might be followed in the catalogue by a tour report for several countries in Asia.
