Biographical / Historical
In the late 1990s work began on clarifying Oxfam's mission. Five rights-based aims were identified, around which the programme would be focused. They were:
- Aim 1 The right to a sustainable livelihood
- Aim 2 The right to basic social services
- Aim 3 The right to life and security
- Aim 4 The right to be heard
- Aim 5 The right to equity (gender and diversity), (later expressed as 'The right to an identity')
Long-term objectives, referred to as strategic change objectives, were developed from these aims to act as a framework for planning.
