'Missa a V Voci [etc.] del Sig. Giov. Seb. Bach. Zweiter Theil'. BWV 232, the B minor Mass, [1846]
Full score copied by Johann Friedrich Rietz from a MS. resembling Deutsche Staatsbibliothek, Berlin, Am. B. 3. Pencil numbers probably refer to the exemplar. On fol. ii of the first volume (MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn c. 66) Mendelssohn noted, 21 Nov 1846, that he had collated the Kyrie and Gloria with the parts, partly autograph, which are now Sächsische Landesbibliothek, Dresden Musica 2405 D 21 Aut 2, correcting his score by them in ink; pencil marks are his own reminders of dynamics, etc. (See also letter to Klingemann quoted by F. Smend, 'Kritischer Bericht' to J.S.B. Neue Ausgabe [NBA], II. 1, 1956, pp. 60-1). In the 'Symbolum Nicenum' he made alterations from a MS. containing that only, in which violins were substituted for oboi d'amore in 'Et in Spiritum Sanctum', fol. 40, and the bassoon doubled the tenor in 'Confitebor', fol. 44.
