Op. 74, 'Athalia'. Incidental music to Racine's play, 1848-1849
Incidental music to Racine's play Athalia, op. 74. Overture (fols. 1-5v) arranged for piano duet, and vocal score of the other music (fols. 7-32) with piano solo reduction. In the hand of Julius Rietz, who was responsible for the arrangement, ca. 1848. Used as the engraver's copy for the published editions (Leipzig: Breitkopf & Härtel, 1848/9). Ink score, with German and French words, and with corrections and engraver's markings in pencil. Fols. 12 and 16v have references to amendments on 'Beilagen', which are not present. The published vocal score has the overture arranged for piano solo (not present here), but at the same time the overture was also published separately in the duet arrangement, and subsequently as part of the 'Klavierauszug zu vier Händen ohne Worte'.
