'Schilflied'. Song for voice and piano. Words by Nikolaus Lenau. Composed Nov 1842, published 1847 as op. 71, no. 4. Autograph fair copy, with water colour illustration at the head of the song, and a presentation inscription at the end: "Zur freundlichen Andenken für das Album der Frau Keyl geschrieben von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Frankfurt a/M d. 24 März 1845". Henrietta Keyl (née Steinhäuser, b. ca. 1791) married a Frankfurt wine merchant Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Keyl ca. 1813. Their artist son, Friedrich Wilhelm Keyl (1823-1871) presented Cécile Mendelssohn with a drawing on 16 June 1844 (now at MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn b.2, fol. 87).
