Comprises:

1. (fols. 1-70) 59 letters to Edward Buxton of Ewer and Co., 1840-1847. All are in English except one (fol. 41) which is in German. Copied by Marie Benecke, her sons Paul and Teddy, and F.G. Edwards, 1893. The originals, 11 of which are now in MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn c. 42, 35-47, are mentioned on fol. 39v rev., and letters concerning them are in MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn e. 2, fols. 174-185. Some of them are now in the Library of Congress, Washington.

2. (fols. 71-80) Correspondence in English between Mendelssohn (7 letters, 1837-1846) and Charles Coventry of Coventry and Hillier (8 letters) copied by Lili Wach's daughters: a letter concerning the originals, of which F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy's are now in MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn d. 55, is in MS. M. Deneke Mendelssohn e. 2, fols. 68-71; parts of letters dated 29 Aug 1844, 1 May 1845 and 20 Mar 1846 were printed in Appendix IV of Lady Wallace's translation of Elise Polko's Reminiscences, 1869.

3. (fols. 81-104) Copies of letters, etc., made by Marie Benecke in the British Museum.

4. (fol. 105) Copy by Paul V. M. Benecke of letter to Vincent Novello in the British Museum. London, 10 May 1833.

5. (fols. 106-107) Copy of letter to [Ludwig von Massow], 31 Mar 1843.
