59 letters from which F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy's brother Paul selected the Reisebriefe, 1861. Letters of 13 Feb and 28 May 1832 are no longer here. Most of these letters were published by P. Sutermeister in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Briefe einer Reise durch Deutschland, Italien und die Schweiz, und Lebensbild . . . mit Aquarellen und Zeichnungen aus Mendelssohns Reisekizzenbüchern (Zurich: M. Niehans, 1958), where a facsimile of fol. 6 is printed between pp. 24 and 25; but in addition to short passages omitted throughout, the following complete letters were not printed.

Binding: maroon morocco with blind tooling and gold lettering by C.W. Vogt, Berlin. Inscribed on front cover: 'Für Lilli Mendelssohn Bartholdy von ihrem Onkel Paul. 1863'.
