This had its first meeting on 16 July 1976, its function being to co-ordinate purchase requests for equipment made by the various scientific groups. Its membership consisted of the Director-General (Chairman), Heads of Divisions, Heads of the Outstations, and the Heads of the Administration and Purchasing Sections.

The material includes minutes, detailed agendas, proposals and "justifications" for purchases of equipment and comments thereon, and some correspondence or discussion notes with members of the committee, scientific and administrative staff. Many of the documents have Kendrew's annotations and calculations.
