Supplies and specimens.

Correspondence with whaling stations, shippers, fisheries, colleagues and individuals on the supply and transport of suitable samples of myoglobin, particularly of sperm whale but also of various other species. The earliest exchanges date from December 1952 when Kendrew and his team discovered the special suitability of sperm whale meat and no time was lost in trying to locate supplies; Perutz joined the initial quest by writing to a colleague in Peru, cables were sent to and from ships at sea and other members of the laboratory were despatched at various times to collect specimens from cold stores, overnight fish trains and airports.
