Scholarship and entrance examinations.
These were held separately at the time in question. Examinations for candidates aiming at a scholarship or exhibition were held in December; examinations for those aiming for entrance as a commoner were held in March. Colleges held their scholarship examinations in small groups with papers set and marked in common; the relevant group here was known as the "King's Group" and consisted of King's College, Peterhouse, Pembroke, Gonville and Caius, and Corpus Christi Colleges. Entrance examinations were usually organised by the individual colleges.
Folder E.7. Entrance acholarship and exhibition papers for "King's Group", 1951, 1953-1957, 1959, most with comments by Kendrew on the standard of questions set and analyses of performance, some with preliminary correspondence and drafts.
