'Undergraduate Essays written for H W T'. Contents of ring binder so inscribed.

These are the essays Richards wrote for H.W. (later Sir Harold) Thompson in the Hilary and Trinity terms 1942, his first year as an undergraduate at St John's College, Oxford. He missed the Michaelmas term 1941 through illness. The arrangement of the essays is by topic and therefore not strictly chronological. The topics are: 'The phase rule'; 'The quantum theory'; 'Photochemistry'; 'Radioactivity and isotopes'; and 'Surface films'. The first essay Richards wrote for Thompson is missing from the binder.
