Comprises letters written by Henry Holland to his father, Peter Holland, with a few letters to his [step] mother, Mary (née Whittaker). Some letters bear pencil marks/annotations as if for editing and many have partial typescript transcriptions (c.1962) [see MS. 16087/4].

Arranged chronologically as far as possible, some letters undated (number of letters in square brackets):

  1. 1815: France (Calais/Abbeville/Amiens [1], Paris [1, part in French] and Paris/Brussels [1]), London [1] and Oxford/Cheltenham [1]
  2. 1816: London [18, some incomplete and some with typescript transcripts], Belgium (Bruges/Namur/Liège/Spa [1] and Spa [8]), Italy (Piacenza/Alessandria/Turin [1]) and France (Lyons [1])
  3. 1817: London [5, some incomplete and some with typescript transcriptions], Belgium (Namur/Liège [1] and Spa [6]) and Germany (Frankfurt [1]). Letter dated 28 Jun 1817 gives an account of Holland's interview with Princess Charlotte and Prince Leopold.
  4. 1818: London [1], Spa [7] and Paris [1]
  5. 1819: Calais/Brussels [1] and Spa [7]
  6. 1820: London [1]
  7. 1821: Edinburgh [1]
  8. 1830: Hamburg [2] and London [1]
  9. 1831: Brussels [1]
  10. 1832: Saint Valery en Caux, Normandy/London [1]
  11. 1833: France (off Pouillac/Gironde [1])
  12. 1835: Germany (Goslar [1]) and London [1]. Letter from London 23 Sep refers to visiting Rammelsburg mine.
  13. 1838: Neath/Ilfracombe [1]
  14. 1845: Canada (Lake Ontario, [1])
  15. 1846: Poland (Breslau [Wroclaw]/Silesia/Cracow [Kraków]/Durdon [1]). Refers to being at the Berlin Observatory when 'Neptune' was taken as the name of the 'new' planet. Penny red stamp.
  16. 1847: Malta [1] and Egypt ('on the Nile' [1])
  17. 1852: Gotland ('between' Petersburg and Lübeck) and Hamburg, but written as 'Brook Street' London [1] and 'Off Minorca' [1].
  18. 1853: Portugal (Madeira [1]) and England ('Off Porthead' [1]), detailing travels round the Canary Islands.
