Biographical / Historical
The Nico Colchester Prize offers a three-month internship at either The Economist or The Financial Times for European citizens. The aim of the awards is to help continental writers understand Britain and British writers understand continental Europe.
Nico Colchester was Deputy Editor of The Economist from 1989 to 1993.
The Marjorie Deane Financial Journalism Foundation, set up in 1998, offers internships at The Economist and The Financial Times.
Marjorie Deane joined The Economist in 1947, working first as a statistician in the Research Department and moving gradually into financial journalism. For ten years from 1966 she was Deputy Business Editor. She then edited the fortnightly newsletter, Fianancial Report, until her retirement in 1989.
The Shell Economist Essay Prize, supported by Royal Dutch Shell PLC, was awarded annually from 2000 for the best essay on a stipulated topic to encourage thinking and debate about the future. The winning essays were published in The Economist.
