Alternate title: Plate 6, "Sun Pictures in Scotland" (1845)The list of plates for "Sun Pictures in Scotland" has an extended caption for this image of Sir Walter Scott's favourite dog, Maida, which says of the original statue, 'It has a Latin inscription, nearly as follows:- Maidae marmorea dormis sub imagine Maida Ante fores domini sit tibi terra levis.' That Latin inscription reads, in part, "sleep soundly, Maida, at your master's door".
