The diary ends with the discovery of a small spring, just when the writer's cask of water was exhausted and he was ready to perish. The twenty-two leaves of which the book consists are all ruled in red ink for entries of days and remarks, but only the first five pages are filled. The diary is in a very natural style, and appears to be a genuine record.

The parchment cover of the volume is part of an inquisition on the death of Henry Cotton "of Hoghton nighe Fullwood" in Lancashire, in 1593, including his will.

A treatise on the elementary doctrines of Christianity, in the very close and minute, but clear, handwriting of Will. Sancroft, the elder, the uncle of the archbishop. Only five "principles" are dealt with; for the sixth the many blank pages at the end were no doubt intended. On fols. 1–9 are prefixed some miscellaneous notes of which archbp. Sancroft has written a table on the inside of the calf binding. Amongst them are English prayers before and after catechizing...
