The N'gamiland expeditions, led by Colonel Naus, aimed to locate mineral resources. A syndicate, of which Rey was a Director, was formed in Cape Town with Hugh Tevis as Chairman. The first expedition took place in 1943, followed by the others in 1944. The final expedition 'failed owing to the breakdown of Naus's health and the outbreak of various diseases in the Bechuanaland Protectorate resulting in all movement being stopped by quarantine' (Rey, 1947, MSS.
